CONDITION & VALUE SURVEY

This type of survey is used to determined the current condition and value of your vessel. This may be useful to an owner prior to listing a vessel for sale or to determine what repairs are needed.

PRE-PURCHASE SURVEY

Choose this type of survey before taking responsibility for someone else’s problems or deferred maintenance items. We’ll help to evaluate the vessel’s condition and value by means of a comprehensive survey consisting of: electrical, mechanical, navigation equipment, physical and structural appearance, and overall maintenance. This type of survey will also include a sea trial and out of the water bottom inspection.

INSURANCE SURVEY

Used to help the insurance company determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. This will involve a look at the integrity of the hull and whether it is safe for it’s intended use.

Preparing for a survey

The vessel should be clean and clear of miscellaneous items. All documentation and paperwork should be available for inspection. You must coordinate with the boat yard or marina to haul the vessel and clean the bottom should a bottom inspection be required. A captain must be retained for sea-trial should one be requested.

Suspected areas may require the surveyor to request interior panels, ceilings, headliners, fittings be removed to gain access. Wooden boats may require the random removal of fasteners from below the waterline areas. This may require written consent from the owner, and be performed by a certified professional, and is the responsibility of the person ordering the survey. Areas that are inaccessible or overly cluttered will not be inspected.
